In 1967 Jerry Stannard joined the Department of History at the University of Kansas. Stannard produced a total of over 100 scholarly articles and contributions to books. He achieved major international standing in the history of botany, folk medicine, herbals, pharmacy, and gardens. The collection includes correspondece, course notes, professional materials, and grant materials.

Jerry W. Stannard was born May 11, 1926 in Los Angeles. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and was stationed in the South Pacific. Stannard earned a bachelor's degree from the University of California-Los Angeles in 1949, and a master's degree in philosophy and classics from that university in 1952.
